Iranian Scientists Discover Healthy Chewing Gum
In a new study, Iranian scientists have discovered that chewing gum made with Salvadora persica, or Arak as it is known in the Middle East, may have healthy benefits for gums. The Iranian report concluded:
The use of chewing gum as a carrier of Persica extract, can reduce GI and BI, and improves gingival health with or without scaling, in patient with a mild gingivitis.
According to the report, the scientists believe taste is not compromised with Salvadora persica. Among various tribes, the plant was one of the original sources of what we would now consider toothpaste.

The Salvadora persica plant is found in Asia and Africa.
