Iranian Newspaper: Carla Bruni a “Prostitute”

A state-run newspaper, Khayan, has labeled the French first lady a “prostitute” in a new editorial that takes aim at human rights activists. In other words, Khayan is subliminally stating Carla Bruni is deserving of stoning by death which happens to be the same punishment she has actively campaigned against. In case there was any doubt, Khayan is considered the mouthpiece of a conservative faction of the regime.
Iran has been the recipient of harsh criticism for its sentencing of 43 year-old Sakineh Ashtiani to death by stoning for the “crime” of adultery. Recently, over 100 cities took part in global human rights protests condemning the Iranian regime. This provocative slam may be the regime’s attempt to ward off criticism but it will likely draw more attention to the egregious act of stoning.
In addition, France is now calling on the EU to threaten Iran with a new round of sanctions in response to the Iranian editorial. Could the Iranian regime begin to show its weaknesses when pressured on human rights?
